Optical Bleaching Agent – OBA

There is very little written about Optical Bleaching agents, Many tissue mills use chemical composition in their chemical mix called optical brightening agents to make facial tissue paper look whiter some of these chemicals cause allergic reactions or trigger skin sensitivities.

Did you know that there are more than a dozen types of chemicals used in commercial production of paper, this toxic substance enters through our skin and gets into our bloodstream.

The most dangerous of these toxins is chlorine and unfortunately, the most conventional paper is processed with chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach creates dangerous toxins such as dioxin and furans. These toxins accumulate in our bodies creating a dangerous situation for our health.

Environmentally Speaking, Optical brighteners aren’t readily biodegradable and our a potential hazard to mother nature and to the marine life, similar to the drinking straws which are not bio-degradable and cause major harm to marine life.

We as a converter encourage tissue paper mills to programs involving sustainability, low toxicity to humans and the environment both as parent chemicals and degradation by-products. Spectrum Converting Industry promotes and establishes clear environmental standards for tissue paper mills to protect people and society in general and strictly establishes the use of water-saving, recycling methods in the production of tissue paper which in the long term protects the environment.
