How sterilized is “Made in UAE tissue paper” from Corona virus?

To understand the purity of tissue paper we need to understand the process of pulping, drying and rewinding of tissue paper into jumbo reels. All Advanced paper making machines reach an average speed of 2000 meters per minute, and as the Yankee spins in the head-box it acts as a dryer with temperatures of 450 Degrees Centigrade providing the much-needed heat treatment, ensure the paper doesn’t get burnt and ensuring, quality, safety, and sanitation from 99% bacteria and viruses.

Spectrum quality control team double guards tissue paper sanitation with UVC light similar to the one used in Surgical disinfection.

UVC light is similar to the blue light used in SPA’s, Beauty Saloon to sterilize the tools used for hair cutting, UV is a disinfection method that used short-wavelength ultraviolet light to kill or inactivate microorganisms by penetrating their cell structure and destroying their DNA molecules prohibiting reproduction. This application is used in hospitals, restaurants, beauty salons, HVAC, water purification.

This accepted practice since the mid-20 century, UV has been a known mutagen at the cellular level for 100 years, Nobel Prize for Medicine 1903 was awarded to Niels Finsen for his use of UV against tuberculosis and other diseases of the skin. UV light disinfection was practiced in France, Austria, Switzerland, and North America for UV water treatment.

Presently no strain of Coronavirus strains has been tested on UV Lights or no results have been published how it reacts to UV light disinfection. IFRC has published guidelines to protect yourself and others from getting sick ;

  1. Wash your hand, But keep a tissue handy when coughing or sneezing to cover your mouth and dispose of used tissue paper properly.
  2. Cover your mouth with a tissue paper when coughing or sneezing and dispose of the soiled tissue paper in the rubbish bin immediately.
  3. If tissue paper is not available to cover your nose with your sleeve, this way there is less of a risk of infecting others who touch shares surfaces for e.g Lift
  4. Make sure to wash your hands with soap and water after touching used tissue paper.
  5. Use a tissue paper on frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, handles, lifts buttons, etc.

Finally, tissue paper is a nonwoven layer which you dispose off after each use, and washing your hands regularly and drying them with tissue is the best procedure, thus discouraging growth of bacteria or viruses and containing it, while if you use a woven cotton handkerchief it will become moist, encouraging growth of viruses and bacteria, there is a risk of spreading infection as you keep the handkerchief in your pocket. It is better to be safe than sorry.

We at Spectrum, urge everyone to practice safety in these dire times as this Corona Virus takes a wild course, and like to put our optimum effort by spreading the precautionary guidelines to see people safe. The key to SAFETY is in your HANDS.
